At the request of the municipality of Eindhoven, PosadMaxwan has enhanced the existing dashboard to provide a comprehensive overview of the quality and health of public spaces. This enhancement is crucial for making informed decisions that align with the city’s growth ambitions. The GOBR dashboard looks into different types of public space with the lens of physical health, mental health and safety/resilience to identify where the action is needed and how future developments can contribute to the quality, quantity and accessibility of healthy public spaces.

Eindhoven and qualitative growth ambition

The municipality of Eindhoven wants to enhance the existing Dashboard in order to have a comprehensive overview of the quality and health of the public space. This enhancement is crucial for making informed decisions that align with the city’s growth ambitions.

There is a crucial distribution issue in public spaces where the municipality does not have clear idea on how much space is needed for which functions or how to ensure a good balance for healthy urban life. GOBR Dashboard, therefore, analyse the existing situation and provide insight into where the action is needed. By highlighting problems and opportunities in specific locations, we can identify how future developments can contribute to quality, quantity, and accessibility of healthy public spaces.

Healthy Public Space Dashboard (GOBR)

Different types of public spaces provide different benefits for urban health. PosadMaxwan has identified spatial indicators in public space that can lead to positive or negative health consequences. These indicators are divided into three themes of health (physical health, mental health and safety/resilience) and three typologies of public space (urban green, urban space, and streetscapes). Combined together, the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) matrix provides a deeper insight into the role of public space in different aspects of health.

The GOBR dashboard intends to reveal the performance of public spaces using the KPIs and show where the public spaces ban be improved. Adopting the simplified 3-tier scoring system, the KPI’s are labeled as poor, acceptable, and good in performance. Combined as complete set of analyses, the overall degree of performance level is summed up as a 'total conflict' as well as ‘total positive score’ for each public space. The collected result addresses the crucial distribution issue in public spaces, determining the space needed for different functions and striving for a harmonious balance for a vibrant and sustainable urban environment in Eindhoven.
