The Municipality of Delft, TU Delft, Province of South Holland, Bedrijvenkring Schieoevers and MRDH asked PosadMaxwan to design the area consisting of TU campus, Schieoevers and Delftechpark into one cohesive urban district.

The area includes campus, Schieoevers and Delftechpark and contains about 1,000 companies and more than 30,000 students. Economically, the ecosystem is already strong, but spatially the components still function too separately from each other. The task is therefore primarily spatial-programmatic: connecting, mixing functions and adding urbanity.
The ambition is to further develop Delft Southeast, with Schieoevers, the TU Delft Campus and Delftech Park, into a lively and connected place where researchers, students, future residents and entrepreneurs meet. An environment that strengthens cooperation and innovation. Not only as an engine for economic growth, but also as the basis for tackling social challenges together. Truly an innovation district.
The spatial ambition document gives direction to the coherent development of Schieoevers, TU Delft Campus and Delftech Park into Innovation District Delft. The goal is to strengthen the business environment of the innovation district and improve its profile and positioning within the city and region. The spatial ambition document thereby builds on the "20 success factors for an Innovation District" (2024) defined by BCI. In addition, Schieoevers will continue to accommodate the regional need for space for companies in the higher environmental categories, as well as water-related and circular activities.
Five main spatial principles
This spatial ambition document proposes five main principles that show how the Delft Innovation District can continue to grow spatially-programmatically, increasing its contribution to the local and regional economic ecosystem. This not only benefits current users of the area, but also attracts and retains talent.
Five principles ensure a strong spatial structure:
Defining neighborhoods
Intensifying interaction environments
Connecting through a robust, attractive network
Exhibiting innovation in a central location
Adding urban amenities, recreation and green space
Interaction environments
The starting point is clear: to better connect education, research, valorization and manufacturing. So that knowledge does not remain isolated, but becomes visible and applicable in the city. That is why we are committed to strengthening and adding interaction environments. These are recognizable and accessible meeting places in the public space and in the surrounding buildings. Places where you meet, exchange ideas and collaborate. They exist at different scale levels, from small-scale and local to large and urban. We connect these meeting places with a robust network of pedestrian and bicycle connections. There is sufficient attention for car and logistical accessibility, an important location condition for companies.
A recognizable heart
We add urban facilities at strategic, central locations. For current and future users and residents of the area, but also for visitors from outside. This will create more dynamics and keep the area lively and attractive even after working hours. In addition, we are working towards one central spot where the Innovation District visibly comes together. A recognizable heart that shows what the area stands for. This place acts as a calling card and strengthens the profile, visibility and positioning within the city and region.
