At PosadMaxwan we believe - as urban designers - in healthy, sustainable, smart cities. More and more people are moving to urban areas, even as cities face major challenges around climate, mobility, health and inclusion. It’s a complex puzzle that calls for new spatial solutions.

At PosadMaxwan, we identify important, urgent tasks and ask relevant questions. How can metropolitan Amsterdam stay accessible and remain a pleasant place to live and work? What can Zuid-Holland province do to help its residents lead healthy lives? How can Antwerp densify its 20th-century districts while enhancing their quality?

We work with clients who are open to exploring new pathways and curious about innovative, unconventional ideas. We help them by showing them what a clean, healthy city looks like and what we can do today to move toward that goal. We achieve this through research, strategy, design and implementation. Our team of masterminds and master planners dives deep into problems, deploys data to find human solutions, and connects levels of scale. This way, we render challenges comprehensible so we can make decisions based in the here and now.

Specialised challenges call for specialised knowledge. That’s why we work with a wide range of partners. The most important of these is Generation.Energy, a consultancy devoted to facilitating the energy transition. Generation.Energy is a spin-off of PosadMaxwan.

“We help clients by showing them what a clean, healthy city looks like and what we can do today to move toward that goal.”

PosadMaxwan was established in 2018 following a merger between the urban planning agencies Posad and Maxwan. Our international team consists primarily of urban planners, researchers and landscape architects, led by partners Han Dijk, Rients Dijkstra and Emile Revier. Each team member plays a valuable, specific role designed around his or her individual strengths.

We apply our urbanist ideals to the company culture as well as in our work. That means we encourage an active knowledge exchange between colleagues, take public transport when we can, and provide our employees with a daily vegetarian lunch. Perhaps most importantly of all, though, we encourage a balance between hard work on one hand and fun on the other. This keeps us ready and able to take on the most diverse, challenging assignments.

PosadMaxwan's favourite cities

We have one thing in common at PosadMaxwan: we all love cities. Attractive cities, sustainable cities, innovative cities – we love to work on them, and we love to be in them. This interactive map shows the world’s greatest cities - in our opinion, anyway. Click on a city to find out what makes it special (and for whom, former team members included).

Our team

Martyna Adamczyk

Architect

"To create smart, sustainable and enjoyable for people city you need a team of passionate designers. Designers who will keep pushing their ideas forward, while constantly updating their knowledge and doing research. That is what I found at PosadMaxwan and what makes me proud of being part of this team. Colleagues learn from one another, share knowledge and inspirations and constantly develop tools to make our work more effective."

Stefano Agliati

Urban Designer

"As urban designers we create better environments, and improving our own work spaces is a good place to start. That’s why I love PosadMaxwan. It’s more than a place to work; it’s a place to live, to learn, have fun and grow, both individually and together as a team. A healthy, sustainable studio is the best way to start building healthy, sustainable cities."

@
Elbert Arens

Associate, Urban Designer, Architect

“The open atmosphere is what I appreciate most at PosadMaxwan. Everyone here is different but we’re all equal. You’re allowed to say what you think, and if you have a good argument you’ll truly be listened to. The projects are managed through a clear-cut office structure, which gives partners, project managers and designers peace of mind. That creates space for relaxation and a dash of humour.”

@
Vincent Babeş

Urban Designer, Architect

“At PosadMaxwan everyone is keen to help you succeed. The intense work flow and deadlines mean you’re inevitably communicating closely with colleagues here. That means that, for example, a design or software problem that would take me an hour to solve by myself can be dealt with in five minutes.”

Ganesh Babu

Urban designer

“As an Urbanist at PosadMaxwan, I get to work across scales in exciting and relevant projects. The intelligent, passionate, and resourceful team at PosadMaxwan helps turn abstract notions of myriad actors into concrete realities over various planning processes and I love to be a part of this process and contribute meaningfully to it.”

@
Francesca Becchi

Urban Designer, Architect

“I’ve gained a new perspective at PosadMaxwan on how the urban environment relates to the landscape. Urban planning is about more than organising functions, streets and squares. It also means coordinating all the spatial requirements of residents, groups and local government. It’s very important that every spatial intervention is approached in an integral way.”

@
Yeeun Boo

GIS Specialist

"As an urbanist, I appreciate the strong spirit of ‘research-by-design’ at PosadMaxwan, which directly translates into better quality of future urban space. The impartible research-based approach in combating the growing demands of cities adds value in the process of multiple feedback and builds the integral model across scales (global to local) and medium (hard and soft)."

@
Juliette Brouwer

Urban designer

"What I love about my work is the diversity of topics that could be addressed through urban design. Designing opens up a world of possibilities in which it is our task to find the right direction for a specific case. To illustrate, one day you will be puzzled with the question of how to adapt a certain district to extreme weather events, while the other day the question of a socially diverse neighbourhood is the key topic of investigation."

@
Elena Bulanova

Urban Designer

“It’s better being at the PosadMaxwan office than being at home! There are fresh flowers on the table, the fruit bowl is always full, the selection of teas is endless – thanks to me – and the view of The Hague is amazing. And the icing on the cake: the library is full of interesting books.”

@
Shuangyun Chen

Urban Designer

"I love to think bold about the city and bring them back to the realistic world. The free-thinking challenges my old understanding of the cities, and bringing them to real offers other insights how a city organizes itself, sustains and grows. PosadMaxwan offers various opportunities for me to hear voices from different people and to react from different views."

@
Elena Chevtchenko

Landscape & Urban Designer, Architect

“I believe the only way to change the world for the better is through ideas. Posad has for years succeeded not only in generating its own intellectual discourse but in getting paid to do it. That’s seriously cool, and I’m proud to be a part of it, and now of the merged company.”
