In order to respond to the challenges facing the city center of Arnhem and to guide future developments in the area, the Gemeente Arnhem commissioned us to draw up the Development Perspective Arnhem Center for 2040.

Like many inner cities in the Netherlands, Arnhem faces challenges to keep the center attractive, vibrant and livable. The municipality is investing in the future of the city at several locations in the city center and station area. At the same time, socio-spatial challenges such as real estate vacancy, social issues, pressure on mobility structures and lack of greenery demand an integral perspective towards the future of the inner city.

In recent years, a lot of work has been done to enhance the city center of Arnhem. The Environmental Vision and other plans and frameworks for the center express these ambitions. This Development Perspective will be an integral and tactical elaboration of the policy and will highlight the qualitative spatial (and programmatic) structures on which the city center can develop further. In addition to providing an appealing future perspective, the project gives insight into the choices to be made and stimulates integral decision making.
