Phase 1 of MIRT study A12 zone and Rijnenburg completed

PosadMaxwan and Arcadis have completed phase 1 of the MIRT study commissioned by U Ned, the partnership of the national and regional governments. This study focuses on the urban development and accessibility of the A12 zone in conjunction with Rijnenburg, an important area development in the Utrecht metropolitan region and the largest urbanization location in the Netherlands.

The starting point of the study is an urban development in which pleasant and healthy living and working are central. The plans for the A12 zone and Rijnenburg promise a cohesive urban area with a contiguous landscape. This will better connect Utrecht and Nieuwegein.

A robust, fast public transport connection to Utrecht Central plays a key role in this. This connection provides good connections to the existing city and encourages sustainable transportation choices, such as walking, cycling and public transport. Moreover, the proximity to the city and the addition of mixed urban environments improve the balance between living and working, reduce travel distances and support the transition to sustainable mobility.

This new development location builds on existing projects such as the Merwed Canal Zone, Woonboulevard, Kanaleneiland and Beurskwartier.

Phase 2 has currently started. In this phase, the results of phase 1 will be deepened with spatial and mobility studies. The goal is to provide more detailed decision information for the Bestuurlijk Overleg Meerjarenprogramma Infrastructuur, Ruimte en Transport in 2025.
