#MOTM: National Water Program 2022-2027

Water is of vital importance to the Netherlands. It influences where and how we live and has an impact on our nature, drinking water, shipping, agriculture and industry. The central government is developing the National Water Program 2022-2027 to indicate how we deal with the challenges of our water, and to keep our country safe and attractive for generations to come. We therefore visualized the impact of major challenges such as climate change, environmental pollution and space pressure - as seen in this #motm - and how these challenges are related.

We must continue to work on good flood protection and a climate-resilient freshwater supply against increasing drought. Care for good water quality and sustainable drinking water supply also deserves attention. The NWP is an elaboration of the National Environmental Vision (NOVI). The Ministries of Infrastructure and Water Management, Interior and Kingdom Relations and Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality hold a joint responsibility for drawing up the plan.

From March 22 until September 21 2021, the draft texts for the NWP can be viewed here (in Dutch). In March 2022, the final National Water Program 2022-2027, including all components, will be adopted and published.
