New project: river crossing and HOV route Rotterdam

The Rotterdam region is growing and is becoming increasingly crowded, while there are only a few river connections with which you can cross the Nieuwe Maas. At the request of the Municipality of Rotterdam, the Province of South Holland, the Metropolitan Region of Rotterdam The Hague and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, we are therefore investigating the most promising solutions for a new multimodal river crossing and public transport route. The study is a follow-up to the previous phase of the MIRT exploration for Riverbank connections in the Rotterdam region, in which, among other things, possible new riverbank connections were explored.

A new multimodal river crossing between Kralingen and Feijenoord, as part of a high-speed public transport route from Kralingse Zoom via Zuidplein to Rotterdam Central Station, should contribute to better accessibility of the Rotterdam region and to a socially, economically stronger and liveable region. The most promising alternatives are elaborated in, among other things, a technical design, an integration design and a traffic engineering design.

It is important that the alternatives contribute to the five project objectives: improving accessibility by road; improving accessibility by public transport; enabling urbanization; improving the urban quality of life and increasing opportunities for people. The reports that result from this MIRT-verkenning River connections in the Rotterdam region form input for the preferred alternative.
